Jennifer Lopez is a real wedding planner, in addition to portraying one in the 2001 rom-com The Wedding Planner, as she was reported to have helped her fellow World of Dance judge Derek Hough plan his real-life nuptials to Hayley Erbert. Derek shared in an interview that Jennifer Lopez helped him plan his own wedding while he was simultaneously playing her groom in a musical film based on her relationship with Ben Affleck.
He mentioned that Jennifer Lopez provided her opinions on his wedding ideas and was essentially his free wedding planner, saying things like, “That’s nice!” He tied the knot with Hayley in the redwood forests of Northern California in August 2023.
Although Hayley did not attend the This Is Me… Now: A Love Story premiere in February 2023 due to her recovery from cranial hematoma, Derek shared that his wife is “getting better and better every day” after undergoing skull surgery two months prior. They also continue to make appearances at events, such as the premiere of Disney-Pixar’s film Elemental, and honeymooning in Italy following their wedding. The couple also faced challenges in their relationship, with Derek being by Hayley’s side during her emergency skull surgery. He reflected on the experience, saying it “was a time filled with uncertainty and fear, going from living our dreams onstage, to a nightmare in an instant.”
