Ryan O’Neal passed away at the age of 82 after battling heart disease. According to a death certificate from The Blast, his passing on December 8th was due to congestive heart failure, as well as suffering from cardiomyopathy for years prior to his death. E! News reached out to the actor’s rep for comment but has not received a response.
One of the star’s four children, Patrick O’Neal, announced his father’s death on Instagram, stating, “This is the toughest thing I’ve ever had to say…My dad passed away peacefully today, with his loving team by his side supporting him and loving him as he would us.” He added, “My father Ryan O’Neal has always been my hero. I looked up to him and he was always bigger than life.”
Ryan O’Neal, born in 1941, rose to fame with his role on ABC’s Peyton Place in the ’60s. His breakout role came in the 1970 film Love Story as preppy Harvard law student Oliver. He continued to star in various films and his most recent onscreen acting role was on the TV show Bones, which he played between 2006 and 2017.
In addition to Patrick, Ryan is survived by his other children, including daughter Tatum O’Neal, who paid tribute to her father on Instagram, saying, “Thank you everyone for all your love and support. He is in Heaven now.” Ryan’s legacy lives on through his work in the entertainment industry and the impact he had on his family and fans.
