Jackson Mahomes, brother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, recently avoided a potential jail sentence in his 2023 battery case. The 23-year-old received a six-month unsupervised probation sentence on March 7 after pleading no contest to a single count of misdemeanor battery. This decision came after the prosecution dismissed three felony counts of aggravated sexual battery related to the case. Jackson, known for his social media presence and support for his brother at Chiefs games, was arrested in May 2023 following incidents at Aspens Restaurant and Lounge in Overland Park, Kan.
Initially facing a misdemeanor battery charge for allegedly assaulting a waiter, Jackson was also accused of grabbing the venue’s owner, Aspen Vaughn, by the neck and kissing her against her will inside an office. The two accusers went public with their allegations through interviews with the Kansas City Star in March. Despite the serious nature of the accusations, Jackson appeared at his hearing via video conference on March 7. By pleading no contest to the reduced battery charge, he accepted the court’s conviction without admitting guilt. The judge, Thomas Sutherland, ordered him to the custody of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department to determine if he qualifies for work release.
Following failed attempts to serve court papers compelling the accuser to testify, prosecutors dismissed the sexual assault charges against Jackson in January. His attorney, Brandan Davies, expressed gratitude for the support of Jackson’s family and friends throughout the past year. Davies stated that Jackson simply wanted the case to be over with and to move on with his life. With the matter now closed, no further statements will be issued regarding the case.
