Daniel Nathans was an American microbiologist. He is perhaps best known for being a recipient of the 1978 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, making him the only Nobel laureate born in Delaware. He studied chemistry, philosophy and literature at the University of Delaware, and received an M.D. degree from Washington University in 1954.
